Bern, Switzerland’s Parties Break Hearts are another addition to the Lockjaw records roster that will be a new name on nearly everyone on this site. I admire the idea to unleash new bands on the unsuspecting public, but this album is really not too special. As I’ve said before, I always try to be objective when I review bands that I would not describe as punk, but this lot have time-warped from the age when Kurt Cobain was everyone’s hero and everyone sang a little like Chad Kroeger would end up doing a decade later. This is a straight up grunge record, with all the horrible clichés that haunt your nightmares. A song called ‘sober’ (you can guess the lyrics) and other similar, teenage angst tunes sung with that growling howl that every band did in the mid nineties when they wanted to show their love for Pearl Jam.
I would say this might just be a case of wrong reviewer, wrong site, wrong time, but this is really one to avoid, I’m sure of it.
