I’m not really too sure how to review this record. On the one hand it’s a beautifully sombre record, one which twists and turns extremely delicately with simple guitar strummings intertwined with an extremely fragile vocal. But then it’s also a bit dreary and, hand on heart, a genre of music I very rarely listen to anyway. So while it’s a record I can kind of appreciate, I know it’s not one I’m going to go back to and listen to again. ‘Alcatraz’ is a lovely, lovely song – as many of them are, to be fair – but it’s just not something I listen to, or even want to listen to, on a beautifully sunny, warm summer’s day.
