Plain White Tees – Hey There Delilah

By paul

Somewhere along the line, Plain White T’s have got pretty big. The accompanying bio to this release suggests 60,000 album sales, 1-million purevolume listens and 150,000 myspace plays. But on the basis of this rather dull and boring album, I honestly have no idea why. With four new songs recorded by Sean O’Keefe making up the meat of this EP, plus a ‘new’ version of the EP’s title track (and a live version too), there’s very little material here to judge. Which, to be quite honest, is a good thing.

PWT are just dull. The title-track is a turgid acoustic number which could have been penned by any band – it’s devoid of emotion and feeling and just ends up drifing along aimlessly. Like most of this EP. Ironically on ‘If I Told You’ the band sing “would you care at all?” and, to be honest, I really don’t care about this record at all. It’s boring. It’s uninspiring and it sounds like plenty of other bands. And a lot do it far better already. Do I care? In a word, no.
