Purgatory State – Seek & Betray

By

Oh make it stop. ‘Seek & Betray’ is the equivalent of somebody inserting a cardboard tube in your ear then proceeding to scream long and hard about nothing at all, but doing it in such a manner they manage to eradicate the will to listen to music anymore, for the rest of your LIFE. The constant screaming vocals are something which need to be heard to be believed and with nearly 3 years on the job, I have rarely heard such utter toss over such a short span of tracks. Fact: Listening to it multiple times in a row, cannot be done, by any man. Infact I challenge thee. The cacophony of feedback and distortion only serves to dampen any semblance of melody that the band may or may not be producing, but once the female vocals are inserted any possible enjoyment or hope which was once reserved for “Seek & Betray” evaporates quickly. The self-titled opener begins proceedings in down trodden fashion, while ‘I Feel (Version)’ is a mild improvement and the almost spoken word nature of ‘Sweets and Candy’ comes close to saving the EP from complete disaster. But even the finest effort on the EP can’t save it from being a complete trainwreck of an EP and something that should actively be avoided in the near future. It is unremarkable at best, and features little of note to captivate even the most giving of listener.
