Radicus – Destructors666 split

By paul

Wow, Radicus got good. Very good. The Peterborough-based bunch didn’t impress me too much last time I heard them, but the three tracks on this split are all excellent. It’s snotty, it’s ballsy – it’s just great melodic punk rock. The vocals are energetic and angry, there are vocal harmonies and it’s tough yet maintains the melodies. ‘Soundcheck’ is arguably the pick of the bunch, but all three songs are great.

Destructors666 aren’t as good. They’re more gruff and less melodic, and their cover of MC5’s ‘Kick Out the Jams’ suits them down to the ground. Of course it’s not a patch on the original, but that’s to be expected. D666 are ok…there’s nothing new or fresh about them, but they do what they do well and that’s the best you can ask. They’re just shown up by Radicus, whose three songs make this split EP a worthy purchase.
