Firstly, great EP name. So great, that I’d decided to name my non-existant band’s first EP ‘Save the Cheerleader, Save The World’ too. What a great show Heroes is. Anyway, great names aside, this is a fantastic little record. Featuring two tracks and the 7-second gem the band have recorded specifically for Punktastic Un-Scene 4, Crewe’s RUE kind of mix elements of Fall of Troy with fall Out Boy. And I know that makes absolutely no sense, but within the odd time changes and general dischordant noise is a melody and hook which really captivated me from first listen. Brooding, powerful and catchy – Rig Up explosive are a decent recording from pretty much having it all.
‘Veaureil’ is genius, mixing pretty much everything into one melting pot, fusing an interesting take on what the band describe as ‘Botch meets Sigur Ros’. And while that’s not strictly true, I do understand what they mean. While the vocal melody on ‘temperature’ kicks off, the guitars grew ever louder and more aggressive – and I think with a little more kick and oomph this song would sound even better. When the song breaks down and becomes all moody, the band go to even greater heights. There’s no doubt there’s still work to do, but Rig Up Explosive are doing something a little different. Let’s hope their next recordings go off with a bang.
