Shield Your Eyes – S/T

By paul

For a three piece these guys make a real din. This self-titled nine tracker is a really inventive and original effort, if a little odd. If there’s one thing Shield Your Eyes do, it’s that they don’t stick to the rulebook. ‘Serfs At Play’, for instance, is musically all over the place. There’s just no common theme or thread and that’s no bad thing at all. It’s kind of interesting to try and second guess where the band may twist and turn next. It’s almost impossible mind. ‘Sound The Alarm’ is as weird and bizarre as it gets. I can’t even really pin down which bands may be influences because this is so strange and obscure – Shield Your Eyes are certainly a marmite band, there’s no middle ground here. And while I can safely say it’s not my thing, I have to admit it’s a very good, and brave, attempt at being different.
