I think a lot of PT-ers will really like this band. There’s a Hit The Lights vibe (and not just in the EP title), as well as nods to bands like The Starting Line, Fall Out Boy and even the ‘Gambling’-era The Movielife sound. Think heavily Americanised pop-punk with big hooks and melodies and gang backing vocals – from Sheffield. Still, for all the American fakery jiggery, pokery, the songs on this release are ultra-solid. It’s easy to cock pop-punk up despite the fact it’s arguably the simplest genre to master. You need slick production, big singalong choruses and a nice, rounded Summer feel. Ship To Shore have all of the above and a little bit more. The title-track starts and ends in fine fashion, and while there’s more than a hint of the heard-it-all-befores I can’t help but like the band. If you like the UK hopefuls in Chaos Days and the like, then this band will probably win you over too.
