This 12-track album is so hot off the press the band haven’t even named it yet. Wowzer. For those not familiar with Skatch they are a British pop-punk band with piano/keys and brass thrown in. They’re very, very fun, not at all serious and in it for a good time. This record is choc-full of party anthems which will have you singing along in no time – think Not Advised meets Catch It Kebabs meets The Rocket Summer for a lazy comparison.
This album does feature some good time moments. Skatch have a knack for a melody and each song has a hook and a chorus. The brass is sometimes a little needless – ‘Forever On Replay’ really doesn’t need it, in my opinion – but even when there’s a small mistake the band launch into a huge singalong part that will quickly put a smile back on your face. About 8 of the 12 songs are very, very instant and if you’re a big fan of bands like [spunge] then you will instantly fall in love with this band.
Truth be told this is really good in short doses. I enjoyed Skatch previously because they were short and sharp and breezy and didn’t outstay their welcome. 12 songs is perhaps a little too much and over the course of the full length the album starts to take it’s toll – it’s a bit too happy, happy, joy, joy for a miserable bastard like me stuck in a snowstorm. Skatch are a good band and this is a solid record – if you like Americanised pop-punk you WILL like this band.
