Slaves To Gravity – Underwaterouterspace

By Tom Aylott

Currently on tour with Buckcherry and Papa Roach, SLAVES TO GRAVITY bring us their second full length ‘Underwaterouterspace’. To say that there isn’t much to this record would be a bit of an understatement. Plodding guitars and bass and lacklustre drumming combined with generic hard rock vocals make for an uninspiring and underwhelming listen.

The production value of ‘Underwaterouterspace’ is fine, yet the tracks that are offered don’t actually offer anything new for the scene it’s a part of or even for the music world at all. It seems fitting that Slaves to Gravity are touring with Buckcherry and Papa Roach because ‘Underwaterouterspace’ sounds like it wants to be Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Audioslave. The band don’t seem confident in their abilities to create their own sound or explore new sounds within a genre that is stale and predictable.

What Slaves to Gravity have given us is a record that fits nicely in with other “Hard Rock” acts but will not and does not make them stand out. Fans of the band and of the genre will no doubt lap it up, but if you want something fun or even interesting, give this record a miss.
