This record is pretty old now, but was recently sent in for us to review. It’s so old the band have actually gone on and changed their name – and from the sound of the new band, refined their sound a bit too. Son of the Mourning, as they were known at the point of this release, is a heavy record in both tone and sound. The band point to the likes of Converge and Poison The Well for influence and over the course of the five songs do a decent impression at passing off both. It’s not that this record is bad because it’s not, but it’s just too similar to what a lot of other bands have done over the years. Now I’m not being too harsh because this record is about 18 months to 2 years old and so influences change, and as I say the newer incarnation, Life Without Armour, seem to have bulked up all round. This is a decent effort if you like homegrown PTW-lite stuff, but won’t change your world.
