Spineless Yes Men – Better Side Of The Bar

By Tom Aylott

London quintet indie-punks SPINELESS YES MEN EP’s three tracker ‘Better Side Of The Bar’ is barely long enough to call an EP, but we’re going to let that fly because it’s well into May and a perfect thing to recommend ahead of sunnier months of the year.

‘Poem, Poem’ kicks the EP off with a somewhat repetitive feel, but it shows off the fun and positive side of the band’s sound. Mixed with a narrative writing style, ‘Poem, Poem’ is a perfect combination of speed and energy.

‘Dickens Would Have Made You A Gentleman’ follows on seamlessly, and maintains the storytelling style of the songwriting and positive vibes. It’s the standout track of the EP, and the overlapping vocals towards the end make it a great listen.

Final song ‘Raindrop Shadows’ rounds things off on a strong note, and though the three don’t show a huge amount of diversity in the band’s sound, the upbeat nature makes it an easy listen, and it’s a great introduction to the band. We’re expecting plenty more good things to come from the Spineless Yes Men.
