StoryBoard – Kill Your TV

By Andy

It’s not clear what’s being sprinkled on the Lucky Charms in Dublin but a real emo-pop scene has sprouted over the last couple of years. STORYBOARD are another addition who sit alongside young bands such as Jody Has A Hitlist and Homestar Runner cranking out sugary sweet vocals, pop hooks and breakdowns. Whatever they’re putting on their cereal, it’s turning their fringes floppy.

Manor Park is a recording studio which has established itself as the go-to for pop-rock in Ireland and the trademark polish is evident on this EP. These songs are slick. They’re genuinely well-crafted too. Storyboard have taken the feel of bands like Set Your Goals and Story Of The Year and meshed the gang-vocal laden pop-punk with a distinctly Lostprophets-esque delivery, particularly in the choruses. ‘Melvin’ is a prime example of the Lostprophets influence, and it’s the highlight of the EP.

Fans of new-school emo-punk should definitely give this a whirl – it’s well produced, super catchy and lots of fun. It’s also available to download for free from their Myspace so you’ve really got nothing to lose…
