I recently went on holiday to the US and listened to a fair bit of commercial radio as we travelled between places. Bands like Striking Back are played constantly on the radio and I can see the tracks on this EP fitting in quite nicely. That’s not to say I particularly enjoyed it – Striking Back remind me of bands such as Hoobastank and The Calling, more than Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate as the biography claims.
The title track is the best of the bunch, an enjoyable song even for someone who doesn’t really like this type of music. But it’s all a bit lukewarm and tepid from there on in. ‘Dark Day Afternoon’ is bland and one-paced, while ‘Dream On’ reminds me a little bit of Nickelback. Eurgh. If you like radio-friendly rock music you may enjoy this. But I’m guessing anyone suckered in to giving this a listen by the ‘sounds like SoCo’ tag, like me, will be desperately disappointed.
