Taken Advantage – Tonight, The Skies

By paul

Taken Advantage are a four-piece from London and are aged between 15 and 17. Bearing that in mind, this mob are very, very competent musicians and clearly onto a winner. The songs are very well structured and the instrumentation performed to a high standard. And while there are some cringeworthy lyrics and a few bum notes here and there, overall this shows a lot of promise.

It’s difficult to exactly pin down the band’s influences as they clearly listen to some metal as some of the riffs are drenched in Metallica-isms, while there’s also the likes of Thrice and even Hawthorne Heights poking out too. ‘The Calling’ has a driving, interesting start while ‘Filthy Secrets’ has some interesting piano and guitar work. Some of the tracks are a little too long and at over 5 minutes could easily be trimmed, but overall this is a very good effort and showcases a band with plenty of promise.
