Like the sound of Weezer crossed with Zolof The Rock and Roll Destroyer? Then The Appreciation post are the band for you! Almost trademarking the genre synth-core, this Boston, USA band have come up with a cracker – the five track ‘Brighter Sides’ EP is a real gem. Produced by Hot Rod Circuit‘s Mike Poorman, the band layer plenty of melodic synths alongside an early Weezer/The Rentals pop sound. ‘Staying In’s Alright’ is an absolute blinder of a pop song.
Not afraid to simply rock out, the fuzzy guitars and swirling synths of ‘Don’t Give Up’ and ‘I’m No Sure Thing’ will both apeal to fans of The Maple State, such is the enthusiastic and energetic Motion City Soundtrack-style bounce that’s going on. The latter reminds me a little of Justin Pierre vocally too, which is definitely no bad thing. Original this band might not be, but excellent they most definitely are.
