The Blunts – Gas up the Machine

By paul

If token shouty Rancid-esque punk is your bag, expect The Blunts to be top of your CD shopping list this Christmas. While this 13-track full length gets very samey over time, in short doses The Blunts (nope, not an all-singing, all-dancing family of James Blunts’ – thank God) do their thing pretty well. The vocals are more than solid and the riffs are pretty good for a genre not known for breaking too much new ground. And thus The Blunts have a problem – not so much a one trick pony, more a four chord wonder. And while everything is done well, there are plenty of cases here where you’re left thinking ‘have I heard this before?’ Good, but not great, this is one for those awaiting the new Rancid album.
