I laughed the other day when I read a comment on the forums which said The Cab could sell out massive venues in this country and were only a few months away from breaking it massive. Truth be told this band are so average it’s unreal – as I said on their last record they sound like Maroon 5 without the huge hooks and this record reaffirms that view. I’m not quite sure why The Cab have released this – it’s essentially a remix EP with tinkered songs and splashes of electronica everywhere. Is this the direction the band will go in future?
‘Take My hand’ is saved by star-in-the-making Cassadee Pope, but is otherwise forgettable fare. ‘I AM Who I AM feat. Eloquent’ is a Maroon 5 b-side which is really poor stuff, while ‘Diamonds Are Forever and Forever Is a Mighty Long Time’ just doesn’t go anywhere. It sounds like every other band out there doing similar things. And I’m sorry to sound so negative but there are thousands of bands who do it better.
Bizarrely, the only interesting song here is the cover of Queen’s ‘I Want To Break Free’. Queen are just a band you don’t cover. It’s as simple as that. And to be honest it’s kind of interesting to see someone tackle such a massive song. The end result is bad karaoke, but fair play to the band for having the bollocks to try and take the song on. They were never, ever going to win and they must have known that, but they still didn’t shirk it so half a star for simply having the balls to try. That said, just like the rest of this EP, it stinks.
If The Cab play arenas and sell a million records then we really are fucked.
