The Casino Brawl – /Elias Last Day / First Signs of Frost split EP

By paul

Small Town Records is doing great things and I have a lot of respect for the records they’re putting out and the bands they are working with. But this EP is one of the worst they’ve worked on and should probably be confined to the bargain basement rather sharpish. Three bands doing very similar things on one EP – it’s a sorry reflection of a very predictable and generic musical genre that is over-saturated and riddled with bands that plod along with derivative, re-hashed de-tuned riffs and bowel-shifting screams. Oh, and tonnes of teenage fans who, any minute, will shift to the next musical fad.

First Signs of Frost are far and away the best of the three bands on this EP, but even then they’re average at best. There’s no hint of originality on this record, no hint at anyone looking to break the mould and do something new and fresh. Instead it’s just more of the same old, same old. Please make it stop.
