The Dangerous Summer – ‘Golden Record’

By Tom Aylott

The Dangerous Summer have never been a band to shy away from controversy Tour cancellations and animosity haven’t eluded the band in their history, but returning with new full length ‘Golden Record’, the band look to come back unified and carrying a fresh outlook.

‘Golden Record’ follows on from the generally underrated ‘War Paint’, and doesn’t drift too drastically away from their or the band’s debut stylistically, but here there’s a little more bite in AJ Perdomo’s ever-impressive vocal. The Dangerous Summer’s trademark uplifting pop rock has lost none of its sparkle and tracks like ‘We Will Wait In The Fog’, ‘Knives’ and ‘Into The Comfort’ will be welcomed with open arms by existing fans. The album arrives just in time for the height of summer too, so it should sit rather well for your afternoon drives and BBQs over the next few months (if it stays nice).

Closer ‘Anchor’ is massive, and will no doubt be a great one to add to the live arsenal for the band, and though ‘Golden Record’ is not quite as immediate as either of its predecessors and new listeners may need patience to get the most out of the record, it’s certainly not fatal to its strength. The Dangerous Summer have produced a cohesive, interesting and slick pop rock album here, and it should get them right back on track to where they want to be (ahem). Well worth checking out for fans of big riffs, hooks and melodies.
