The Day I Vanished – S/T

By paul

For what they do, Scot rockers The Day I Vanished do it well. They play an atmospheric post-hardcore that hits hard yet remains melodic, and while it’s not the most original sound and they perhaps don’t do it better than the premier acts in the same division, they at least give it a good whirl with a competent three-tracker that references bands such as Alexisonfire and Moneen. Track 2, ‘Phalanx’, is possibly the best song here, a slower burner that slowly winds up into a tub-thumping screamer with vocals seemingly fit to burst and guitars that bounce around the room. While the vocals aren’t as melodic as those of a band like AOF, the song structures are tight and the breakdowns don’t sound forced or predictable. ‘Legion’ is another good track and this three-song EP shows promise – if the band can force their own sound out a little bit more they really do have the talent, and the chance, to shine.
