I’m not sure why, but I expected The Gold Coast to be a lot quieter than they are. Must have developed the pre-conception (or should I say misconception) because of the Black Lungs reference. Anyway, this lot come from Sheffield and this record is three tracks of pummeling hardcore in the vein of Architects, The Chariot, Botch, More Than Life and Your Demise. It pulls no punches – it just batters you instead. There’s no relent all the way through; the title track starts as the EP means to go on with a strong and powerful vocal and some very impressive musicianship to back it up. At only three songs it does whet the apetite and does leave you intrigued for more so that’s healthy. Whether they have enough in their locker to entertain someone who isn’t usually into this kind of thing is a different matter entirely. Still, ‘Black Lungs‘ is a decent introduction to a band who could gain a fair few new followers if people opt to give them a chance.
