The Holy Parachute – What did…

By paul

Wow, a genuinely ska ska-band. None of this hybrid stuff, none of this ‘we take influence from ska, but we don’t want to be called ska’ ska either. This is guitar upstrokes and brass section ska – and it’s pretty good. Back in 1997 when Reel Big Fish and Less Than jake were still pretty underground, I quite enjoyed a bit of ska. And while I’ve grown up and out of the genre, The Holy Parachute do their thing to a pretty high standard. It’s all mid-paced, the vocals are very professional and there’s never too much brass – often where bands of this ilk fall down.

Instead songs like ‘Top of the World’ shine, leaving a five-track EP which while not ground-breaking, is a lot of fun and I can imagine on a hot summer’s day, listening to this in the car with the windows down would be a treat. It’s laid-back and done well – and with this type of music that is all you can ask for.
