The Legacy – Solitude

By paul

Just a nitpick – why do people stick a tracklisting on the CD? It’s useless trying to refer to something when the disc is spinning around in the machine! Anyway, that’s not The Legacy‘s fault. Signed to Visible Noise after releasing a successful EP on Dead and Gone, their new label is certainly giving them a good push, hyping the band as “visionaries sent from the depths to inject life into the stagnant UK hardcore scene.” And while The Legacy aren’t a bad band, I would argue the UK hardcore scene isn’t stagnant, nor does this band breathe new life into it. There are better bands that do this kind of thing after all.

At seven tracks and just 19 minutes, ‘Solitude’ is short and sweet. The bass-driven songs are the best – track 2 and its gang vocals stand out from the pack – and everything is as it should be. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good record, but it’s not great. I didn’t get to hear the band’s last EP so I can’t mention any progression, but this just seems to me to be, in places at least, a record that takes influence from the usual suspects and gives a British take on things. Ultimately, ‘Solitude’ is good but nothing too life-changing.
