I was pointed in the direction of The Motorcycle Industry by Jon at Alter The Press; they’re not a band I’d ever heard of before but I do enjoy new music hence this review. This is the band’s newest EP, a 4-tracker and the follow up to last year’s ‘Electric Education’. It’s difficult to pin down the band’s influences. They remind me a little of Reuben in the way they have sparkling vocal melodies, but they don’t really sound that much like them musically. It’s just similar arrangements. ‘Paul Newman and a Ride Home’ is a fantastic little track, all swirling guitars and drums and some awesome vocals. The band are catchy and poppy without needing to write massive hooks – that’s an achievement in itself, because each song here is easy to remember and singalong to without ever resorting to being too obvious. There’s maybe a little ‘garage’ vibe too, tinny production values certainly sound authentic and help the overall sound no end. ‘Possessed’ is a keeper too, suggesting a band that could well be destined for much more exciting things. A breath of fresh air.
