The New 1920 – S/T EP

By paul

There seem to be plenty of astonishing new bands coming out of Wales right now and The New 1920 are the latest to chance their arm at a shot at the big time. This four-tracker was recorded and produced by Stuart Richardson, Mike Lewis and Ian Watkins of Lostprophets so you can certainly tell this record is going to be on the rockier side of things with huge hooks, a la LP. And while this is certainly more pop, it’s still a reasonably catchy introduction to the band. ‘Amber Gambler’ is, for me anyway, the best of the four songs. It’s a real foot-stomper and has a very singalong hook. The band don’t quite match up on the other three tracks, but overall they are punchy and upbeat and showcase a band with talent that can clearly hold a tune. They need to be a little more consistent on an album, but the signs are promising.
