‘Pierce The Empire With A Sound’ reminds me of Blood Brothers minus all the energy and, well, spazzy bits. It’s a record that is moody and atmospheric and epic; a record that rumbles and twists and turns in sporadic moments, lacking the creative bursts of energy which would really make The Out_Circuit stand out from the pack. As this band are practically Nathan Burke’s solo project you have to admire the range of instrumentation and the ambition and scope he chooses – as well as guest appearances from the likes of members of Coalesce and Thrice. And while it’s an intriguing throw back to the 90s post-hardcore scene, ‘Pierce The Empire With A Sound’ isn’t lively enough for me, long term, to enjoy on repeated listens.
