The Shower Scene – S/T

By paul

Close your eyes and you’d think you were listening to Fall Out Boy or Hit The Lights. The Shower Scene are very good at what they do. Very good. But it’s a huge rip-off of other bands, almost identical in style. ‘This Is The Call Out’ is brilliant – but sounds exactly like Hit The Lights circa the first EP. Punchy guitar riffs, very slick vocals and catchy choruses…TSS have all the hallmarks of being a very good band who could get very, very popular indeed.

It’s a difficult review to write because The Shower Scene execute slick pop punk songs as well as any of the US bands, even the ‘big’ ones. The choruses are huge, really huge. It’s so slick and so American-sounding that kids on the ap.net forums would cream themselves over this Irish mob. But that’s the thing – I don’t think any of these guys are American and they wear their influences too much on their sleeves. It’s shameless how much they beg and borrow from their peers, sounding absolutely identical to other bands. How do you review something which sounds so good, yet sounds so borrowed and unoriginal?

8 for execution, 6 for originality = 7 overall. The Shower Scene are a fantastic band let down by the fact they flagrantly rip off other bands. If they’d come to the fore three years ago this band would be MASSIVE.
