This is really impressive stuff. It’s slightly bonkers at times, a record that can sound huge (‘The Transitive Deficiency’) and melodic or completely chaotic (‘Meanwhile’) in equal measure. At times the band, who use synths and samples heavily, come across like a less poppy Enter Shikari. At others they sound like seven different bands – within the same song. And if this record does have a downfall that would be it, it’s often too varied and it can be difficult to pin down the band’s actual sound. But as individual pieces of music there are some great, ambitious tracks here that don’t really sound like too much else around. The lack of cohesion is both this album’s strongest point and it’s weakest – but it makes it interesting and enjoyable nonetheless.
