Any band with the song title ‘In-Ur-Endo’ really should know better. Seriously. Truth be told, The Startover aren’t too bad a band. This three-tracker (I don’t know how long it’s been out, maybe a while) showcases a band that can write a hook and like to overdo the vocal harmonies, and when you play perky pop-punk it’s good to know they can tick all the right boxes. It is heavily Americanised and it is obvious and generic, but then show me a pop-punk band that is re-inventing the wheel. They just don’t really exist. ‘Stop. Rewind. Replay’ is a decent enough song with everything in the right place, but it’s not quite up to the level of their US peers and influences. It’s catchy, sure, but the chorus doesn’t stick in my head enough to make me sing along. And that’s where the band need to improve in my opinion. The Startover are halfway there – now they need to nail the choruses and they’ll be on the right lines.
