The Story So Far – Under Soil And Dirt

By Tom Aylott

Shamelessly late to getting around to giving this a review, we thought “better late than never” was the correct approach for this excellent effort from THE STORY SO FAR:

‘Under Soil And Dirt’ is a quintessential “modern” pop punk record from a quintessential “modern” pop punk band, and though that may just send a few people off asking what the big deal is, there’s little doubt that the record is right at the top of 2011’s pile.

Instantly listenable and enjoyable, ‘Under Soil And Dirt’ never manages to outstay it’s welcome, and the band’s certain welcoming charm has been carried forward from a similarly excellent EP.

Quicksand‘, acoustic styled ‘Placeholder’ and ‘Daughters‘ are early personal favourites, but it’s easily a record to get lost in, and hopefully it’ll pave the way for the band to do greater things in the future.

It’d be great to see The Story So Far move on and refine their sound a little bit so that they manage to stand out from a constantly swelling rank, but if, somehow, you’ve not had your fill of excellent pop punk in 2011, then this should fill that last inch of space remaining (and then some),
