The Summer Set – Love Like This

By Andy

This is – to be fair – a slightly belated UK release given ‘Love Like This’ initially came out in 2009 on the other side of the Atlantic. Summer is fast approaching however, and LAB Records are fittingly giving UK fans a chance to get their hands on an 18-track deluxe edition of the album.

For a first full debut, ‘Love Like This’ proves THE SUMMER SET are more than capable of making the successful transition from EP to full-length. Tracks ‘Chelsea’ and ‘Love Like This’ stand out and are The Summer Set‘s best chance of making a mainstream impression; both are extremely worthy of radio. The album as a whole struggles to flow but is full of good pop songs, ranging from the synth based ‘Young’ to some slightly edgier tracks like ‘Passenger Seat’. Don’t be mistaken though, this is as candy-floss sweet and catchy a record as anyone could possibly wish for, and fans of All Time Low and Every Avenue should take note.

Aside from the album’s original 11 tracks, there is the bonus of six Taylor Swift cover songs (yep, really), five of which come from their 2010 Hoodwink performance in New Jersey. These are all good fun and the final two ‘Love Story’ and ‘Fifteen‘ are particularly enjoyable.

This may not be groundbreaking stuff but given it’s The Summer Set‘s debut album this is an enjoyable release and will brighten up even the gloomiest of British summer days.
