I first came across Tiger Please on the Punktastic Un-Scene 5 compilation when they submitted a track for inclusion. I know Tom at Walnut Tree was very impressed by it as he kept emailing me to say so. If I remember rightly when we were discussing the final tracklisting for the comp Tiger Please were one of the bands at the top of his list. Infact, and correct me if I’m wrong Tom, the band were in a list of ‘definites’ that I don’t think I was supposed to disagree with. I’m pleased for Tom that TP are now on his label and TP should be pleased they’re in good hands.
‘They Don’t Change Under Moonlight’ is a solid little EP. There are six proper songs and six interludes which is a little different from the norm, but it works pretty well. Tiger Please are underpinned by a vocalist who has a very, very good voice. He stands out among his peers and it sets the band out from many others doing similar things. If you liked the Attack! Attack! EP, the Welsh band, not those crabcore idiots, then you’re guaranteed to like this record. The two bands aren’t identical by any means, but there’s something similar in the vibe they give off. ‘Strawberry Moon’ and ‘Lights And Sound’ are two lovely, lovely songs surely destined for bigger audiences.
There have been so many talented Welsh bands in the last few years and Tiger Please are among the best. If this EP gets heard by the right people, and I’m sure it will, the band could well make more than a name for themselves. They sure deserve it.
