Veils – Clarity

By Tom Aylott

If you’re not already paying attention to Tangled Talk Records’ VEILS, let Punktastic assist you in taking that wobbly first step by telling you that their new EP ‘Clarity’ is nothing short of excellent.

The laziest description possible we can give is that the band are a bit like LA DISPUTE fused with the sludgier end of British Hardcore of late that’s packaged in a far more listenable way – but if that doesn’t make any sense, then we’ll just say that the band have a great universal appeal to “heavy music fans” and there’s very few reasons to doubt that ‘Clarity’ will do great things for them.

From opener ‘Standing Alone – Isolation’ to closer ‘Surrender – Clarity’, VEILS manage to sound consistently fresh and interesting, and though their influences are worn on their sleeves, their approach feels like an evolution rather than a cloning, and it’s another rock in the landslide of 2012’s great music in its early stages.

If you’ve got ears and you’ve enjoyed any single hardcore band that you’ve heard at any point in your life, you’re more than qualified to give VEILS a listen, and ‘Clarity’ is a fine benchmark for the band’s future.
