Verona Grove – The Story Thought Over

By paul

Like The Ataris circa ‘So Long Astoria‘ and The All American Rejects at their poppiest and most hooky? Then be prepared to lap up Verona Grove with the excitement of a cat which hasn’t had milk for a week. As generic as pretty much every other band in the genre, Verona Grove are another US threesome which concentrate on writing melodic pop-rock songs with huge choruses.

This album is 11 tracks of enjoyable pop-rock. At times the band flick between the more poppier end of the scale, coming across like a less boyband Simple Plan, while at others they sound a little more mature. Track 3, for instance, sounds very much like The Ataris at their most radio-friendly. It’s this mix, while not wholly original and inovative, which keeps ‘The Story Thought Over’ an interesting listen.

This 11-track album is being co-released by Universal so it’s quite likely we will be hearing a lot more from Verona Grove in the future. And while their style has been done to death – and then some – this is an enjoyable summer’s release and one I’ll probably go back to in the future.
