Wayside Kings – EP

By paul

Wayside Kings play melodic pop-punk straight outta So-Cal…via London. It’s very bratty, nasally US-influenced pop-punk but done to a pretty high standard. I know I sound like a broken record when I say it, but the band don’t tear up trees or re-write the rulebook with this EP, but they do do what they do well. There were too many ‘do’s’ in that sentence, apologies.

The tracks here follow a very successful verse/chorus/verse formula. The vocals, as Americanised as they are, are pretty good and hit all the right notes. I wouldn’t say the band are shit-the-bed catchy but every chorus has something going for it and will have you tapping along pretty quickly. My advice would be to look to make the guitars that bit stronger as the riffs aren’t s good as either the vocals or the drums. But there’s promise here and this is a solid introduction to the band. For fans of Fireworks, Save Your Breath or All Time Low.
