We Unite – S/T

By paul

These guys sent me this release quite a while back now, but it’s taken me a few months to find the time to review it, so apologies for that. We Unite is a three-piece from Kent made up of Sam Webb (ex Thousand Leagues Below) Vocals / Guitar, Lee Vickery (Ex Red Light Runner) Bass, and Dan Corder (Ex Red Light Runner, Thousand Leagues Below, #1 Defender) Drums. They have a four track EP available now – this release – which you can grab yourselves for free to download from http://weunite.bandcamp.com

The band describe themselves as a mix of Deftones and Benton Falls, which sounds strange but is actually quite true. The vocals are delivered in a similar way to Chino Moreno at his most melodic, while the tone of the guitar certainly sounds similar to ‘White Pony’ era Deftones. There’s none of the screaming/aggression though, which is where the Deep Elm band references come in. ‘What Have We Done’ is a good start off, with atmospheric musicianship building up quite a mood. ‘Seduced’ is a bit slower in pace to start with but another interesting track, while closer ‘Shadow of a Former Self’ is a bit more stripped down and works really well. If you’re looking for something interesting and a bit different, I would heartily recommend We Unite.
