Wolves At Heart – Be Your Own Best Friend

By paul

Wolves At Heart are almost, almost there. Sonically they’re pretty good. There are some really good riffs here, it’s all well produced and comes across all New Found Glory-like. But I just don’t like the vocals. They remind me of Tom DeLonge, which when you’re from deepest, darkest Glasgow…it just doesn’t quite fit. I’ve always found DeLonge’s vocals to be a bit nasally and whiney and I just find Wolves At Heart suffer a little bit in the same way. Musically the band sound great, but the vocals just don’t quite match up. The choruses and lyrics aren’t quite as good either; it’s not that either are bad, but if you want to be among the best pop-punk bands then you need catchy as fuck choruses. That’s how all the best bands do it – they make you sing along. ‘This Is What You Get’ has a brilliant breakdown and an awesome riff and is the closest the band get to a fist-in-the-air singalong, but it’s not quite there. A very good attempt and with a bit of work this band could definitely be ones to watch out for.
