After the split with Fuck With Fire, I knew this would become one of my favourite Household Name releases. Rising from the ashes of Jets Vs Sharks, You Me and the Atom Bomb are fast and ferocious, a welcome change from what a lot of bands are peddling at the minute. There actually seems to be a surge in the number of bands playing melodic hardcore, and with The Steal and YM+TAB leading the charge, this can only be a good thing for UK punk rock. The HHN press release states The Broadways, Leatherface and Hot Water Music are influences and soundalikes, but the choruses and melodies of a Bouncing Souls and the whole EpiFat mid-90s scene are just as much an influence.
Peter Miles impeccable production touch makes the 14 tracks here glide seemlessly over the course of the record. ‘Won’t Let Go’ and ‘Feet On The Ladder’ are instant anthems, while ‘Proud To Say’ is a real positive fist-in-the-air call to arms. Even Latterman make an appearance on the rousing closer ‘I’m Home’. For me this isn’t quite as good as The Steal‘s self-titled release, but it runs it very, very close. With socially aware lyrics, You Me… are certainly the thinking man’s punk band. And with hard-hitting riffs and melodies to die for, chalk this lot up for yet another classic HHN release.
