Young Hollywood – Shotdown

By paul

Let the second and third generation Gallows soundalikes come forward. I guess it was only a matter of time after Lags and co hit the mainstream that we’d be flooded with similar bands and the mailbag at PT Towers is often overflowing with bands that singalong to ‘In The Belly of a Shark’ in the shower in a morning. Young Hollywood are very similar sounding; while it would be lazy to completely right them off as a Gallows rip-off there’s more than a passing resemblence and as a result the tracks fly by here leaving me wondering if I didn’t know the band’s name, would I consider them a bunch of demos by another band? It’s all competently done, I can’t fault the band for that, and each of the four tracks has enough of an aggressive edge to get the blood flowing, but there’s nothing here to have me reaching for the ‘play’ button after the third of fourth spins. Bands such as this are usually far better live so I can’t right them off, but Young Hollywood are more Z-list than A-list when it comes to punk rock celebrities…
