Your New Escape Plan hail from Sunderland describe themselves as ‘a rock band in the vein of Jimmy Eat World and Circa Survive‘ yet I don’t think they sound like either of those bands at all. The vocals are high-pitched and wail a little, but the melodies are a million miles from either of those two bands. YNEP are far from a bad band, indeed at times they sound pretty good, but they just lack an ‘x’ factor which would set them apart from a lot of other bands. ‘Jupiter’ is a very good song but many of the others tend to blend in to one another; the choruses aren’t catchy enough and the riffs not heavy enough to standout from the pack. It’s a case of being good but not great – and there are too many bands who currently sit in this category in the UK for me right now.
